Monthly Craft Challenge: Monogram

craft challenge

I am participating in Heidi's {@Blue Eyed Blessings} Monthly Craft Challenge!

This month's challenge was MONOGRAM!

Appliques

I currently have an obsession with appliqueing! I just realized how quick and easy they are to do and how SUPER cute they always turn out! The first picture is a shirt that I made for Eli with some leftover fabric. The second picture is a bag I appliqued for my sister for her birthday! To do both projects, I simply printed out the letter on paper, spray glued it to some interfacing and then the fabric, cut out the letter, and used the zigzag setting on my sewing machine to attach the letter! SUPER simple and SUPER cute!

Wooden Letter
I picked this wooden "W" up at Kohl's for less than $15. I know you could cut out and paint your own, but this was so much easier! Okay, so I didn't really craft anything here but it is still a monogram and I think it looks really good!

Monogrammed Flower Pots
I made a stencil by printing out the "W" on paper. Then I placed it under some contact paper and cut out my stencil with a craft knife. I {with Jason's help...definitely need more than two hands for this step} carefully placed the contact paper stencil onto the pot. I used a craft pen made specifically for writing on terra cotta to fill in the stencil. I peeled off the stencil and cleaned up a few edges that were rough. I think they turned out really cute...now I just have to remember to water the plants so they don't die!

Etched {well sort of} Glass Cookie Jar

As soon as Heidi announced the challenge last month, I knew I wanted to try this project! I end up procrastinating until the last minute and didn't really end up with what I had hoped for, but it turned out pretty cute anyway!
*
{I actually bought a different cookie jar, but I dropped it and it broke into a million pieces. I found this one the other day when I was at Walmart for a little less than what I had spent on the original and I like it better too!}
*
I used the tutorial that Heidi linked the other day. I printed out the letter, taped it to the inside of the jar, attached some contact paper to the outside, traced the letter and removed it, then applied my {sort of} glass etch medium. After I applied it, I realized that it said "glass etch look" and that it wasn't really etching the glass! Oh well, after two attempts it turned out looking pretty good. Now we just need some cookies to put in the jar!

Family Day at the Farm

On Saturday, we went to Family Day at the Farm. It was supposed to introduce farming and agriculture to kids and the community! There were a bunch of booths and demonstrations...we made butter, milked a 'cow', made plant people, saw real cane syrup, petted a few animals, saw how to make homemade soap, and a ton of other really cool agricultural type things! It was a beautiful day to enjoy a fun {and free} outing with the boys!
Cute balloon corn stalks!
Henry milking the 'cow'! Henry pointed out that it wasn't really milk...it was just water!
Grant took a turn milking the 'cow' too!
The boys got to see a SUPER cool spider among a ton of other really disgusting dead insects and bugs!
They got to check out the fire truck...
and try to rope a {fake} bull!
Grant climbing the fence in the horse arena!
Henry with his chicken balloon.
Eating their ice cream that they got {free} for milking the cow!

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

We are NOT loving the summer!

After my posts about food the last few weeks, I did NOT decide that even though I am happy with what we eat at our house, maybe we could broaden our horizons a little and try a few different things too.

I did NOT take an adventurous trip to Target and roam the isles looking for some interesting {but still yummy} food! I have NOT found my new favorite snack! It is not NUTELLA! I have NOT eaten an entire jar of it by myself in the last two weeks! It is NOT delicious, and I have NOT been sitting at the computer eating pretzels dipped directly in the jar of Nutella!

On my adventurous trip to Target I also did NOT buy all of the ingredients to make hummus. I did NOT actually make the hummus, but then end up throwing it away because the smell was SO BAD! I did NOT put way too much tahini {a weird smelling sesame paste that is only for the very brave} in my hummus, making it basically inedible! On my next trip to Target I did NOT just buy some premade hummus {which didn't smell like feet and was actually very tasty}!

I am NOT just a little glad that VBS is over! We had a great time...but VBS is NOT a ton of work, and I was NOT just a little exhausted by the end of the week! I was NOT SUPER excited that three little girls walked the isle at church during the early service {and I think a few more during the late service} because they had gotten saved during VBS!

I did NOT have an AWESOME time Saturday night with my girls! Girls Night Out is NOT the best stress reliever ever! We did NOT have a great dinner and then we did NOT spend about two hours roaming around Target making way too much just a little bit of noise! I did NOT talk Karen into buying some Nutella....and I don't think she is now in love with it too!

I am NOT going to remind everyone one more time to enter my GIVEAWAY for a SUPER cute personalized beach towel! The giveaway does NOT end tonight at 10 pm Central Time!
