Fork and Spoon Redo

Back in January I found some great deals at a resale shop that was going out of business. You may remember the lovely wooden fork and spoon from this post. Well, I finally got around to revamping them. The total cost for this project was $8.50!
I paid $2.50 for the set and then spent $3.00 on a can of primer and $3.00 on a can of Black Satin spraypaint. I sanded down the fork and spoon, wiped them down, and sprayed them with a good coat of primer.Then I gave them each two coats of black spray paint to match my kitchen countertops.
I used left over gingham scraps to cover up the strange totem pole faces, and to hang the fork and spoon.
I think they make a nice addition to my kitchen decor...quirky and fun!
{Please ignore the messy kitchen...I took these pics while I was making my rainbow cupcakes! }
To finish up the area I am going to buy the letters E, A, and T to hang above the fork and spoon! Now I just have to decide if I want to paint the letters black, green {the same as the kitchen}, or maybe Mod Podge some paper or fabric on them.

  2. Ok, I LOVE the fork and spoon. And I ADORE the green kitchen. (That is the PRETTIEST green!!!) And I'd do modge-podge coordinating papers in black, white, and green - IMHO.

  40. Cute! They remind me of an Everyone Loves Raymond episode when they steal the wooden spoon off Marie's kitchen wall.

  41. I have a couple of these that I was thinking of getting rid of b/c of the tacky handle. I may just have to hold onto them. Great Idea!

  42. These are cute! How clever to wrap the ribbon around. I don't think I would have thought of that. :)

  48. I LOVE the green in your kitchen. We are moving in the next few months and I have been picking up swatches of colors in that vicinity to do our family room in (it has huge french doors that open onto woods in the back and wanted to be contemporary but bring the green outside in). Do you know what color you used so that I might steal it?

  49. The spoon & fork are cute and I LOVE your green wall color. Can't wait to see what you decide to do for the letters! {found you at TipJunkie}

  50. I modge podged three different scrapbook papers on some E, A, & T letters. First I painted the outer edges black, applied the papers to the top, sanded the edges, antiqued and modge podged the entire surface. They turned out just adorable and get so many compliments. Do it - you'll love it!

  53. Too funny! I was just "gifted" that same cutlery set! (Apperantly they are from Hawaii) I bought the black spray, and black and white scrapbook paper to "wrap" around the tiki/totem faces. I like the idea of the fabric though... It looks like it would hold up better. I'm so glad you did this project before I did. Now I know its worth it. :) I love how you hung them... I had no idea what to do there. Thanks for your inspiration.

  54. These are super cute! Love the fabric!

  55. Wow!!... MUCH cuter than I expected! I expect I would pick up a set myself, now that I see how cute they CAN be! ~tina

  57. Ooo..I found those exact spoons in my basement when we bought the house I felt uninspired and they went to Goodwill! Ugh, hate when that happens! Love the idea and love your kitchen color. Wish my hubby would be up for that adventure. :)

  58. Fun! The fabric covering was such a good idea--I think those totem poles would have freaked me out too much and I wouldn't have come home with them. Way to use your imagination!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I bought a large fork and spoon at a thrift store recently, and have just been hanging on to them deciding exactly what I want to do. I love the way you hung these, and I love the fabric wrapped around the middle - nice touch, and a great way to update them!

  60. What a great idea to cover up those carvings. Cute!

  61. Visiting from CSI..
    I actually made a comment on these in April &
    didn't realize it until now...the funny thing is over this past weekend I just bought a pair for 5.00 (u got the better deal!) & I think ours are identical..mine are minus the pretty fabric though!!
    Great Job!

  62. The gingham cover up was a great way to take tiki to traditional. I think black and white EAT letters would be cute. Maybe black with small white polka dots.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I've seen hanging utensils before, but yours are some of my favorites! Love how you added the fabric bows! :)

  64. Super cute! This is such a neat idea :]
