We don't normally make a big deal about St. Patrick's Day. I mean, we wear green so we don't get pinched, but other than that it just isn't a big holiday for us. BUT, when I saw these cupcakes in Family Fun magazine, I knew that I had to make them! They were pretty easy to make {though very time consuming} and the end product is well worth the effort!
I started with a cake mix and store bought frosting.
I used my Wilton food color gels to color about 2/3 cup of batter with each color of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. I mixed the cake batter and color together in plastic cups. I used white icing {as clouds} and topped each cupcake off with a gold coin. And the colors turned out amazing! I think one of my favorite parts was the rainbow left on the cupcake wrapper! After making a few rainbow mini cupcakes and a few rainbow regular cupcakes, I got lazy and just did mini cupcakes in solid colors.

I figured I could line them up to look like a rainbow:)
How do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

The boys and I also made some SUPER cute shamrocks! I cut three hearts per person with my Cricut and hot glued them together in the shape of a shamrock and the glued on a stem. Then the boys used crepe paper and decorated their shamrocks! SUPER easy and we made it with stuff that we had around the house.

My boys wear green to school so no one pinches them and that's it.
ReplyDeleteI love Family Fun magazine. I always question if I should renew my subscription and I always do. I don't make to many of the crafts, but I love their cake recipes. We made the dirt bike one from last month's magazine. I think I forgot to post it though.
Those are cute. Family Fun is a great resource. We really don't celebrate St. Pattys day. But we are so close to Savannah that one year I totally want to go down for their parade! Apparently a leprechaun came to Melody's school and gave them coins...she calls him "Da Twicky Man!"
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Love the cupcakes, though I doubt I'd have the patience for them!
ReplyDeleteI love those cupcakes. I made those for Jamison's birthday and they turn out so cute. I love that the frosting is the cloud. We don't usually do anything, except this year Jamison did ask to buy a St. Patrick's Day shirt but we didn't get a chance to find one.
ReplyDeleteso presh. you are destined to have a grand st. patty's day with all those sweet goodies!
ReplyDeleteOh, those cupcakes are so great! And look so yummy! What a fun idea! And cute shamrocks...we might have to make some of those today :) We don't really do anything either, and we might go out today, but since we were gone all day yesterday...we may just stay home, it's so nice outside today!
ReplyDeleteLoving those cupcakes!! We usually don't do much on St. Patty's Day, but today I made some green milk and scattered some green sprinkles that were "leprechaun dust" and a few other sly little things. The kiddos have eaten it up! :)
ReplyDeleteHave you been working with the new lens you bought the other day? The depth of field in your recent pics is really terrific!
great idea! I'll have to remember that for whan my kids are a little older! we dont even have green on right now...but we're not goin anywhere today
