Art in the Hall

This project has been on my to do list for a few months now. While the boys were at VBS last week, I finally got out my supplies and started working on it.
********
The clothes line for the boys' art has been hanging in the hallway for a few years now, but it always seemed kind of boring...you know, except for all the cute art hanging on it. So after I got my Cricut in January, I knew that I had to find the perfect quote to hang above the boys' art.

What do you think?!?
I decided on this Pablo Picasso quote a while back when I did a blog post using the quote. I printed it out just to make sure that I got all the letters cut correctly. Then I went to work {or really the Cricut did} cutting out the letters on black vinyl.
I laid out all my letters and then worked out the spacing. I used transfer tape to line up the words and then attach them to the wall. I also drew a pencil line on the wall to help keep the quote as straight as possible.
Now the hallway seems much more complete!
I love what a little bit of vinyl and a little bit of time can do for a space!
Do you have any vinyl words or decorations in your house?

{For those of you that have asked, you can click here to see a little bit more detail on how to make the art clothesline.}

  1. This looks really great! I was supposed to break out the Cricut this week and never did, sniff. I love the quote that you used and I know the boys are excited to see their art displayed. Can you email me (when you get a sec) and explain the transfer tape. I'm thinking of doing vinyl in a few places, but I get stuck on how to use it. Oh and where do you get your vinyl sheets?

  7. Girl that looks awesome. I could so do that down my hallway because I have nothing on the walls. Great idea. Might just have to borrow that one. What did you use for the line?

  10. Love it!!! I've actually been wanting to do an art wall in my kitchen. I plan on framing it in (with a really big frame (and letting the artwork hang on a line inside the frame. Love that quote, may have to 'borrow' it!

  11. I love this idea! I never thought to use a clothesline to hang the kids' art. Clever!

I haven't attempted vinyl lettering with my Cricut yet but I think I might try it soon. I almost bought a quote for my son's room but didn't want to plunk down almost $50 for a custom quote. I can do it for a fraction of the cost with the Cricut! Thanks for the inspiration :)

  12. I LOVE this! I am totally stealing that quote. I don't have a cricut, so may be buying some stencil letters.

Of course we have vinyl lettering in our house thanks to the sign shop. I need to start using the sign cutter for more craft projects, that is one of my goals for this year.
    Thanks again for the idea.

  39. Cute! I think I need to go to a support group for Vinyl on my walls. Maybe that needs to be my next blog entry! I have 4 in my house and 5 more sitting and waiting for their place. In fact yesterday I was at Big lots and had a few more in hand when my hubby looks at me and says, "What are those for?" Well, I don't know but I like them. He just looked at me until I put them back! :)

I love this quote - I think I might use this when we study Picasso at school! Imagine that in a classroom...great!!

Excellent work - and so happy to see someone else that has the small cricut - I feel a little limited by it (for vinyl).

My daughter has her own art room in our house with a clothesline going across it (small room) where I hang her art work. I altered chipboard letters with patterned paper and spelled out ART LIVES HERE.

Oh, did you use any special hardware for the clothes line, or just wire and hooks? Seems like most folks are shopping at Ikea for this sort of thing... Thank you for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I know you already emailed me about how you did your clothesline but I'm just now getting around to trying to do it and now I can't find the directions. Did you just use eye hooks and wire?

  69. Kelli,

Would you be willing to let me use your picture in an ETSY listing? I do vinyl lettering and I'd love to offer your saying linking to your clothesline idea. It is super cute! And I know if I do the saying, people are going to want to know how to do the clothesline. :)

  75. I adore your idea of hanging the children's art work on a line below that quote from Picasso. As a writer, artist, & mom, this appeals to me on so many levels.
Would you be willing to share what typeface you used? Also, as I live in Europe I'm not sure we have things like the vinyl sheets & transfer tape you mention. Would you be kind enough to explain a little further and how transfer tape works? Thank you for sharing your idea, I'm certain it has inspired many 'Art Walls'.
