Ants and Crumbs

This is Eli's booster seat.
He eats most of his meals sitting in this seat....except when he eats breakfast in the living room while Henry and Grant are getting ready for school. I'm going to be real here and tell you that most days you will find crumbs and smears of food on, in, and under Eli's seat.
**************
Yes, that is a jelly smear on the side of his seat.
Yes, we had biscuits and jelly for breakfast on Saturday.
Yes, I knew it was there.
Yes, I took this picture on Tuesday.
Yes, I was being lazy and not cleaning it.
Yes, the jelly is still there...though now I'm kind of feeling bad, so I may have to clean it today:)
I'm also going to be real and tell you that I don't clean Eli's seat after every meal every day every week! Those goldfish crumbs have probably been there a while.
Not cleaning his seat has not really been a problem...until some way too smart ants figured out I was being lazy and started feasting on the buffet that was Eli's seat!
I spent an hour yesterday chasing down a mile long line of ants with the Dust Buster. And then I cleaned the crumbs and smears of food off of Eli's seat...well, except for that jelly smear!

  1. No worries, I am the same way. I was so happy when my oldest got out of that seat. Now that the twins are 15 months they will be in them soon and imagine this x's 2!! Way to keep it real!

  2. Our table almost looks the same under underneath and my kids should know how to eat over their plates...haha! Luckily...Skipper and the cats know about this and get most of the crumbs that fall ;) We've had ants so many times though...the last time they were getting in the cat food! But I set traps and haven't seen them in awhile! Good luck with them...they are such a pain! And if I was keeping it real...you'd almost always find dirty dishes and dirty socks on my counter, haha!

  3. We get them every once in a while and they are a nightmare to get rid of!!

At least Eli sits in that seat. Neither of mine would!!

  4. Thanks for keeping it real!! I was like that when the girls were little too (except the floor - the girls ate most of their meals in the kitchen and I detest crumbs on the bottom of my feet - but the chair...)

Terro is a good product if the ants keep coming back.

  5. I'm the same way! It's just too much to do it ALL in one night/day! And we've had a HORRIBLE case of ants this summer. The only thing that has worked for us is to use a pesticide called Tempo. It's a commercial grade concentrate you can get at farm coops; what's great is that it's fume free and safe to use in/around kitchens and eating places (commercial kitchens actually use it as their pesticide). If you keep having ant problems, you might try it.

  6. We get those same ants if we don't vacuum our eating area. I hate them!

  7. We have some little ants too, though they don't only congregate by our table, because nowadays, we mostly use these cool folding trays I got at Ikea and let the kids eat in the family room while Jdaddy and I eat in peace and quiet in the dining room. Terrible, huh?

By the way, is your floor polished concrete??

  8. We have that identical seat and the identical crumbs and jelly smears. ;) We have two dogs that wait under the table for opportune times that small people might drop food or crumbs, so the floor isn't an issue. We found ants in our upstairs bath last week!!! How weird is that?!

  9. Maybe you should add a dog to your brood. :)

Are your floors polished concrete or is that tile? Either way, I love them!

  10. Charlie recently starting refusing to sit in his booster (preferring a regular chair) and I was so happy b/c now I don't have to clean it. I hear ya, girl, those seats are a pain!

  13. I fall in the same boat with the high chair. I was actually thinking about switching to the booster thinking it would be easier to clean but I'm afraid not much would change. It's not like I'm going to magically stop being too busy to deal with cleaning (read: lazy) :)

  14. Ants can really be a pain and I hate using such strong bug spray in the house! However, if you put some cinnamon around where the ants enter and around the destination, it will stop the ants without having to use any bug spray!

Try it... it works. The cinnamon hurts their legs or something, and so they won't come back!

  15. THis is how Zoe's seat always looked as well. I never had ant problems until we moved here and I started putting the cat food down on the kitchen floor, I have found ants everywhere in their dish of food, poor things. My husband swears by a chalk line I have no idea though.

  17. I would hate to lift up the booster seat in our van. Yikes. Hope you get rid of all your visiting friends.
Free 4 All Friday is up. I haven't been around much so I hope you remembered :)
    Thanks for doing this.
Sorry about the ants. I can have my bug guy come for a visit. :)

  19. You seriously made my day! Your house is gorgeous & to know that you had to deal with those pesky crawly yuckies somehow made you even more real to me :) We live in an older house so if you don't pick up almost immediately you may be in trouble. With 3 kiddos 4 & under that is near impossible so I've had a run in or two. We have a great bug guy that comes every couple months - thank goodness for him, he helps with my sanity. You are adorable & I love that you keep it real!
