Corndog

Yesterday, the boys' dog {Corndog} chased her last car.
*****************
Jason left for work around 6 am yesterday morning, and Corndog {doing what she does every morning} chased his truck down our little road. Only this time she got a little too close the tires, and Jason accidentally ran over her.
He came back to the house to tell me and ask what I thought we should do. He was worried about waking up the boys and not knowing what to tell them. He decided to drive down the road to his grandmother's house {she lives about two miles away} to bury her.
******************
We stayed inside most of the day yesterday and the boys haven't noticed that she is gone yet. Jason was going to tell them last night...but we aren't quite sure how to break the news to a 5 year old and a 3 year old.
*******************
She was a good country yard dog
kept to herself
played with her neighbor dog friends
slept during the day
and rarely barked unless a strange dog came into the yard
*********************
The boys really loved Corndog...and she will be greatly missed!

{Any advice on how to break the new of losing a pet would be SUPER helpful!}

Oh I'm sorry. Poor Jason! I've never had to do something like that before (telling the kids). I think you just have to be gentle and explain that you all will have to remember the good memories. Ask them what would make them feel better about the situation. Poor guys.

Oh no. I am tearing up. She is a precious little thing. So sorry. We have never had pets, so I am no help.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. :(

Here's how we broke news like that to our three year old:
We simply told her that her cat died and went to heaven. We explained to her that when people/animals go to heaven, that they do not come back, but that when we go to heaven we will see them again but it won't be for a very long time.
We offered no other info unless she asked, which she didn't. If she would have asked why, we would have told her that Jesus just wanted her there with Him to play or something. :)
I used to teach pre-k and found that the easiest explanation for touchy subjects was often the best. Hope this helps...and good luck telling the boys. :(

When breaking news like that to young kids, I think it's best to simply tell them that their doggy died and is now in heaven. I think it's important to tell them that when people/dogs go to heaven, that they do not=

Oh No! I am so sorry about your dog. I can not even imagine. That picture of Henry and Corndog was not that long ago so really he was still just a pup. I am so sad right now.

When my kids were little, we had a cat that I had since I was a teen, that died. Her name was Missy. But she was old. Anyway, we let the kids see her and pet her and then we told her we were going to take her to heaven. They talked about it alot after that but it helped that they were able to say goodbye. We buried her next to our house and the kids spoke of her as "in the garden" for a very long time.

This has got to be hard especially for Jason. I can not imagine running over my dog myself. I will pray for all of you.

Oh that's so sad. I'm so sorry for you and especially Jason. We had to put our dog, Caroline, down right after Melody was born. We basically told Jack the same thing that Sneaky Momma suggested. Basic info...she's in doggy heaven and just simply answered his questions. We didn't go into detail about how she died just said "Caroline was very sick and old and God decided it would be best for her to live in heaven with Him." good luck.

My advice is pretty much the same, short and simple....not too much info, just enough that they understand. When they ask, and I would wait until they ask, let them know she is in doggy heaven, running and playing, being happy.

Oh how sad. I haven't had to deal with that yet with my boys. I actually had not even thought of that when we got our dog. I hope the boys aren't too upset. Good luck.

Poor Corndog....so sorry to hear this.

I'm not good at things like this. My poodle is 16 years old deaf, going blind and I can't even think about her not being here....

Praying the children will be OK with all this...

Hugs...

As soon as I read your first sentence, I said, "Oh no!" out loud. I have zero advice for you really. I'm so sorry!

Aw...that makes my heart break :( I'm so sorry that happened. I don't know what you would say...I guess just try and be as honest as possible...that Corndog was in an accident and he won't be coming back. Emily's 5, and she understands that when people die they go to a cemetery. Maybe say he is at Grandma's now. Gosh, I hope they are not too sad...and all goes smooth. I am already dreading the day our dog is not with us...he's getting older :( Good luck, I feel bad.

Oh my gosh...I don't even know!!!!!!!!! Makes me so sad!! I can imagine how your husband feels!! We have a puppy, and I don't even know how we'd break the news. I guess, the best way is just to say it and console them as you go. Oh gosh..I don't know! Just scratch what I said!!!

Let us know how it goes, Kelli!!

Corndog was so cute!!!!!!!

Kelli, I'm so sorry to hear this. I bet Jason was feeling so bad about it. I wish I had some advice to give on it. I'll pray that the boys will take it OK.
